” Despite its “astronomical” cost of living, the magazind praised its artistic bent, proximity to wineries and naturakl beauty as reasons for surfera around the country to bail on theit usual surfing destinations and endeavor to becomr the Big Kahuna at Steamer Lane or Pleasure Pointt in Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz was in eliter company. Other California surf towna thatmade Surfer’s Top 10 list were all in Southerh California: Encinitas in third place, San Clemente in the fifth and Malibu in seventh place.
